Few realize that is is directly due to the efforts of Rotary International - along with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Health Organization and the host countries - are responsible for practically eliminating polio off the face of the earth. My wife and son were in southern India several years ago, administering the "two drops" to more than 900,000 in one state alone during National Immunization Day on January 21, 2001.

It is wonderful what foundations and people, such as your family, are doing to eliminate this terrible scourge. It is also tragic that politics, very poor governmental decisions, and fanatical beliefs have gotten in the way of final success. May polio soon go the way of smallpox.
