    [FONT=Times New Roman, serif][FONT=Arial, sans-serif]The 16th annual [/FONT][FONT=Arial, sans-serif]Ham Radio University[/FONT][FONT=Arial, sans-serif] (HRU) will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Briarcliffe College, 1055 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, NY 11714 [/FONT][/FONT]



    [FONT=Times New Roman, serif][FONT=Arial, sans-serif]A day of activities at which hundreds of Amateur (ham) Radio enthusiasts will share ideas, experiences, knowledge and fellowship, Ham Radio University also will be the New York City/Long Island Section Convention of ARRL: The National Association for Amateur Radio™. [/FONT][/FONT]


    [FONT=Times New Roman, serif][FONT=Arial, sans-serif]The event will include more than 30 informational forums and hands-on workshops moderated by local experts in a broad range of Amateur Radio activities including: Building an Amateur Radio Station; Ham Radio Apps for Mobile Devices; Emergency Power for Homes; Communicating through Amateur Radio Earth Satellites; and workshops on antenna modeling and electronic connectors.[/FONT][/FONT]


    [FONT=Times New Roman, serif][FONT=Arial, sans-serif]The keynote speaker will be [/FONT][FONT=Arial, sans-serif]Mike Corey, Emergency Preparedness Manager of ARRL, discussing the vital role that Amateur Radio plays in emergency and disaster communications.[/FONT][/FONT]


    Special Event Station W2HRU will be operating throughout the event and visitors will be able to experience Amateur Radio communications firsthand by getting “on the air”. There also will be a session in the afternoon for individuals who would like to take a Federal Communications Commission license examination to become a ham radio operator.



    [FONT=Arial, sans-serif]Ham Radio University is a cooperative effort supported by radio clubs and related organizations in the New York City - Long Island area. This year the event is being sponsored by the Great South Bay Amateur Radio Club (GSBARC). [/FONT]


    [FONT=Arial, sans-serif]Information about ham radio classes, public service events and other activities will be available from the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the Long Island Mobile Amateur Radio Club, the Radio Central Amateur Radio Club, the Nassau Amateur Radio Club, the Kings County Repeater Association, CERT, the Salvation Army, the National Weather Service, Friends of Long Island Wireless, and other groups with display tables in a Club Room. [/FONT]
