    Hi Everybody;

    The MDSR Team again has extended the capability of the hardware interface to include such popular radios as the K3 and the FTdx-3000. The difficulty in making these radios compatible with the LIF down-converter unit was the difficulty of getting suitable LO crystals which would yield a 12kHz IF for the sound card input.
    As a LO can be used any stable oscillator with an output of 3Vpp and an impedance lower than 500 Ohms. Si570 based oscillator kits which have a high frequency stability are affordable and can be configured to start oscillating at a set frequency on power up and provide the perfect LO for your transceiver.
    Even though a crystal oscillator has a very low phase noise and excellent frequency stability there are transceivers that can not be covered with the current set of LIF frequencies available. By using the external LO input transceivers like the K3 and the FTdx-3000 which has a 9MHz IF output can be used with the MDSR software.

    The MDSR software and the LIF interface allows for a very cost effective and amazingly sophisticated user interface for RX as well as TX. The LIF2014 kit for RX and the BiLIF kit are easy to build and can enhance almost any HF transceiver.

    Please download and read the PDF documents with regards to your RIG.
    Note: All documentation is free as long as it is used for HAM radio purposes.

    We have created a LIF with an external LO document that will guide you though the conversion. It has 4 simple steps. I can be found in the group in the Photo Album section and the heading: External oscillator connection (see also below).

    The MDSR team hopes that this will enable even more HAMs to be able to use the LIF and BiLIF converter with their RIGs.

    We are also working on the next release of the MDSR software, which will include an update of the DSP engine. The FM modulator and demodulator will also be part of this release. This makes the MDSR portion of the software 100% Java compliant. This means it can run on any OS that has can install the Java RTE (run time environment). Many thanks to the people at SoftSynth for the continued support and for letting us use their DSP software for free. This enables us to keep the MDSR software free of charge for you.

    All the best and 73;

    The MDSR and BiLIF team
    Alex / VE7DXW
