The Duke City (Albuquerque, New Mexico) has lost one of the most recognized voices in the city.
Landis "Dee" Diedrich KC5JBO became a "Silent Key" the morning of Tuesday October 14, 2014. His death
was attributed to a sudden episode of illness related to the medical condition he was afflicted with:
FOP (Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva) a rare medical condition with no known cure. Less than 900
people are afflicted with this disease world-wide. Dee was known as the "Voice of The Duke City Hamfest"
    for nearly 20 years.
He lent his voice and energy to assisting travelers to Albuquerque to locate hamfests, tailgates,
swapmeets, and even the ABQ Balloon Fiesta. Confined to his bed for over 35 years, KC5JBO used Ham
Radio as his window to the world, and became an inspiration to everyone he talked to- promoting Ham Radio
courtesy and good operating. An ambitious reader, Dee collected amateur radio antenna books, and was an
invaluable source of knowledge on antenna design, radiation patterns, and propagation prediction. He is survived
by one sister of Albuquerque, NM. A memorial was held Monday Oct. 20, 2014 and burial was the next day.
He will be greatly missed. 73

So sorry to hear Bruce, I haven't been on the radio in awhile. I always enjoyed talking with Dee on FM and the side band nets. He will be sadly missed.
