    Grimeton Radio/SAQ extra transmission

There will hopefully be a transmission with the Alexanderson alternator on 17,2 kHz on 'United Nations Day' October 24, 2014 at 10:00 UTC. Start up and tuning from about 11:30 UTC.

There will be a message written by students in Denmark.

We are not hundred percent sure we have access to the antenna this day because of other organization using it.

This time ...we do not require any QSL-reports and will not verify.

    Regards.

    Lars SM6NM

P.S. We intend to continue with our annual transmission on Christmas Eve (morning), Dec 24, at 08:00 UTC with tuning up from 07:30 UTC. D.S.

This station is historic! Go to www.grimeton.info for details. Call sign SAQ and transmits with 200kw on 17,200Hz. Most ham transceivers will not tune below 30Khz but many SDR's will tune down to 0 Hz! Check out the Antenna. Hope to hear this on the air.

Notice that this is within the frequency that computer sound cards can handle. Many sound cards today have a very good signal to noise ratio, which means that essentially the only thing you need to do is to download a software and connect a longwire antenna to the sound card and hope that you don't get a sudden thunderstorm.

One software for this can be found here: https://sites.google.com/site/sm6lkm/saqrx/

Wow! That is novel. Use the sound card with an antenna for the input as a VLF receiver. Thanks for the tip.

Here's a video I made this summer of the startup of the transmitter.

Amazing. I half expected to see the roof open and then a lightning strike bring the monster to life.
