GigaParts activates W1AW/4

Celebrating the ARRL’s 100th Anniversary, the GigaParts Amateur Radio Club is proud to activate W1AW/4 on 40m phone tonight from 5pm to 7pm US Central time. We look forward to working you on 7220!

 

Thursday night’s event was pretty exciting! A big THANK YOU to the 300+ folks we worked, and special thanks to Mark Brown, N4BCD, for stopping by to help setup the station and train the operators – a couple of whom had never operated on HF before!

Our station consists of the Yaesu DX-1200 we’ll be giving away December 12^th in our Sweepstakes, a RadioWavz DX-80 off-center-fed dipole antenna, and a Heil PR-781 microphone using the Heil CB-1 PTT desk stand. We had plans for using the Yaesu Quadra System 1KW solid state amplifier, but ran out of time before it got it hooked up.

We reserved another slot on the W1AW/4 schedule for Tuesday, October 21, from 5pm to 7pm (US Central) on 40m phone, so if you still need to work Alabama in the ARRL’s Centennial QSO Party, listen for us Tuesday night!

 

Here's Seth, who is studying for his Tech license right now, getting to experience what it's like on the receiving end of a pile up! I still get excited every time I get to watch a new ham make their first HF contact. =)
