    U.K. Amateur Radio Licence Review

Ofcom held their regular meeting with the RSGB on Thursday, October 9

The Society reports that Ofcom will be relying heavily on the volume and content of the responses as evidence of what the amateur radio community feels about the proposals.

In a recent Ofcom consultation regarding an allocation at 146 MHz, more CB enthusiasts responded than did radio amateurs.

Why do the RSGB only want us to respond to 4 of the 10 questions (1,6,7 and 8 ?) .. apparantly we're not smart enough right ? Or maybe they have their own preferences to the other questions that they don't want us to upset ?

    Hi Jeff,

That isn't the case, but the four highlighted are especially critical to avoid disruption to UK Amateur Radio. From the intro...:-

"The main concerns that RSGB consider need addressing are Questions 1, 6, 7 and 8, where we hope the following discussion will help you to formulate your own views for your response. You will of course need to consider the other questions, which we understand people are finding more straightforward."

    regards
Murray Niman G6JYB, RSGB Spectrum Chair

Fair enough Murray, and thanks for your reply. However bearing in mind that we only have until the 20th, why is it that this info only appeared with about one single week before that deadline. Do you think that's enough time to get as many responses as may be needed to sway Ofcom's decisions to the RSGB's way of thinking ?

News about the consultation has been public (see Ofcom's website) for over a month. GB2RS news has mentioned it several times, on September 9th, 12th and 19th, and October 3rd and 10th. It's also been mentioned on the RSGB main page for most of that time. It got a mention on QRZ here on September 11th. Southgate also published an article about it on September 11th. I've seen quite a bit of discussion, some constructive and some rather less so, in various places since Ofcom published it.

If you hold a G*, M* or 2* callsign then it would probably be a good idea to go to the Ofcom site, read the proposals, and respond. You've still got the rest of this week in which to do so...
