    MERIDEN - Leonard A. Butkiewicz, 69, husband of Helena "Nina" Butkiewicz, passed away on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at Hartford Hospital after a long courageous battle with esophageal cancer.

    Born in New Britain on June 11, 1945, the son of the late Sophie and Leonard Butkiewicz, he had resided in Meriden all of his adult life.
    He graduated from New Britain High School and attended the University of Hartford in the engineering program.
    Mr. Butkiewicz was a longtime Napier Company employee, had worked at Elks Manufacturing and ended his career at Microbest.
    Lenny was a member of the National Ski Patrol System and was awarded his National 4779 and served as a training and testing coordinator and was a senior examiner. Lenny had a wide variety of interests, including model airplanes, golf, motorcycles and boating.
    He was an avid ham radio operator until the time of his death.

    Besides his wife, Lenny is survived by a son, Andrew Butkiewicz, his wife, Margie and their daughter, Halia; a sister-in-law, Winnie (Sooki) Neville; and a niece, Nelley, her husband, Jeff Levesque and their two daughters, Katie and Emily.

    The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
    Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

    Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m.
