Carl H. Martin, K0JHS, my Elmer, friend, and Radio Amateur mentor passed away in Aurora, CO on 30 July 2003 after a good life of 73 years.

Carl was retired from the Rocky Flats Plant. He wasn't a very active ham in his later years, but maintained a good Kenwood station feeding a tribander and a Hygain Hy-tower with many, many radials we planted together. It helped us stay in touch during most of my travels.

He and his wife Sarah would ride 2-up on a 70's vintage BMW R-70 throughout the mountains of Colorado. I remember helping Carl change the plugs and points on the bike in 1982, with 75,000 miles on the odometer, it hadn't ever needed a tune-up.

The Air Force sent me on to other assignments in 1983, life and children happened, but in 1991 he caught up to me via Marsgram during Operation Desert Shield/Storm.

A humble, modest, and quiet gentleman he was. His memorial was a few lines in a huge newspaper. My biggest regret was not seeing him before he passed 11 years ago.

Carl, tu for all, gud dx and 73.
