Young hams take up the RaDAR challenge

    On the 19th of April, Andries ZS6VL, Cliriska ZU6BV and Angelo ZU6M completed an 11km hiking trail near Heidelberg, Gauteng province (South Africa) and of course some HF equipment was also part of the package!

    A station was set up en-route and 40m contacts were made with many stations.
    As far as we know, this is the first time that a RaDAR (Rapid Deployment Amateur Radio) station was activated by young South African radio amateurs.

    Good for them, A lot better then what some kids in the USA do now. Does sound fun.

    Really glad they enjoyed it, ah, field days in the 60s, lugging AR88s and generators across muddy fields, what fun!!
