It is the "hobby" status that has sunk the Amateur Radio SERVICE.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

 

Still, to me, the most fascinating thing is being able to use a piece of wire as an antenna and a battery as a power source and with that, be able to talk to people many thousands of miles away.

 

Who, exactly, are we supposed to serve and what happens if we decide not to?

 

To chime in the same as everyone else here thus far: It's always been just a hobby.

 

I totally agree! My very first overseas contact was a guy from Slovenia! I was useless after that for the rest of the day!

 

I don't know if I'm in the minority or majority on this one; but to me it's a hobby that I employ at times as a service to my community. So for me, it's kinda both.

Mark, from what I've seen of this hobby/service, there's always someone who's willing to step up. That's part of what makes me proud to be a part of it; but, maybe that's just me!
