    630m DX down under

It seems perseverance has paid off for long-time 630m operator Murray ZL1BPU, who uses the special-purpose call sign ZL1EE.

Over the last week, he has had numerous reception reports from VK6DZ (5047km) and many more from VK5ABN/8 (4155km).

Using WSPR2, Murray has operated overnight at 200W, using a small 7m high Marconi antenna (squeezed into a 1/5 acre urban lot), and after a week of trying, finally broke the 5000km barrier.

What undoubtedly helped achieve this remarkable DX is that the ZL1EE QTH is only about 9km from the west coast, and most of the path to Derek VK6DZ is over water. The window appears to be about two hours wide from local midnight.

VK/ZL 630m activity is quite strong, especially over the winter.

There is a ZL 630m net every Thursday night. They are keen to find stations in other South Pacific locations, prepared to listen and report signals.
