You don't have to pay to be a subscriber to eHam. You have to subscribe to post on QRZ.com and it is the same one eHam. But, subscribing doesn't mean that you have to pay a fee. It means that you have registered with the system to be able to be identified, to receive messages, and so forth. But, it doesn't mean that you have sent in any funds.

Yep, you now only get the first two reviews in any category.

I have a number of reviews posted on eHam and now can not read my own postings. I don't remember getting an email or even a pop up on the website about the reviews going pay per view.

While the owners of the website can charge anything they want for access, I tend to agree that all of the data supplied to eHam in he reviews section was done, free of charge to eHam, by concerned Amateurs who were passing along information about products for the benefit of the entire ham community.
For eHam to usurp all of that work and unilaterally make a decision to charge for the"free" offerings of hams who did not know that their work was going to be part of paid content....is a bit over the top.

Who owns the copyright on the reviews?

Glen,

I hear what you are saying about subscribing. However, I am a registered (free) subscriber to eHam, but in order to see the reviews I have to become a paid subscriber to eHam.

- who owns the copyright? eham, of course! (carefully read *any* license agreement or TOS [terms of service] before signing up for *anything* via electronic means!

- the most insidious TOS i know of? PayPal, of course... but others are quite bad as well, such as cable companies providing Internet access that restrict personal web or other outgoing servers on user firewalls or computers...

- this is why i recommended only posting a URL for a review on eham from now on...

- btw, i did NOT mean to imply that eham.net's TOS was insidious...

- besides, i feel kinda guilty, as after posting a farewell mentioning how many reviews i've written, i was granted subscriber status! (quite remarkable and very considerate)

- still, i can't help feel that restricting access to equipment reviews is the way to go... the reviews are a *draw* to get subscribers IMHO...

Glen STH,

On eham.net there is a registration just like QRZ and then there is a subscription process that is entirely different... Subscriber means in this case "paying customer"...

I see what they mean about the reviews... This must have just been implemented recently.... Today was the first time I have seen this happen....

Glen, I think you may be wrong on this. I just went over there and gave my login, and I still do not have access to the product reviews. If I click on the "subscribers only" link, it brings me to pages requesting monetary donation. I think the minimum was $15 per year.

Has anyone else been able to determine a fee-less way to subscribe on e-ham? It doesn't sound like this is their intention. They need money to keep the site up.

Even though you are registered there, if you didn't give 'em any money, you are not subscribed... If you click on "profile" under 'My Eham", it will say "You are not a subscriber to this site!" if you didn't give 'em money... Apparently, some parts of the site are not accessible if one does nto subscribe....

Surprise! You know these website operators love you! Hell, there's NEVER enough money, to hear them tell it, even when the site is festooned with adverts on every page (The ARRL site, for example and it's a .org address)

It just costs SO much money, I'm sure, so, what the hell...start hitting up the users after you steal their work with your user agreement...Kinda reminds you of corporate 101, doesn't it? What? you seriously thought money didny talk in amateur radio? you thought it was all about the spirit and group love (Again, look at QST and the ARRL website...they "Represent" you, dont forget)?

LMAO.

I, (like most of us) pay monthly, for access to the internet. That's as far as my money goes into this thing! If that "subscription fee" isn't enough for some, then I don't need 'em!
