[h=1]Amateur Radio Club to hold Field Day "Emergency Drill"[/h]

GLOVERSVILLE, NY June 2013| Members of the TRYON Amateur Radio Club in Fulton County will participate in Field Day, a demonstration of the emergency capabilities of “ham” amateur radio operators, on the weekend of June 22-23.

Starting at 1 p.m. Saturday June 22nd, straight on through to Sunday for 24 hours, club members will be in Meyer's Park in Gloversville, NY. The public is invited to see ham radio’s capabilities and learn how to ham radio is helping every community. Field Day is the culmination of Amateur Radio Week, sponsored by the American Radio Relay League, a National Association for Amateur Radio. Using only emergency power supplies, ham radio operators set up emergency radio stations in parks, shopping malls and backyards throughout the country and make as many contacts as possible in a 24 hour period. “What we do for fun is what we are called upon when disaster strikes” said Don Gifford WA2EZ, President of the TRYON ARC. “From the earthquake and tsunami in Japan to tornadoes in Missouri and Oklahoma, ham radio provides the most reliable communication networks in the first critical hours of all these events. Because ham radios are not dependent on commercial power, Internet, cell towers or other infrastructure, they work 100% when nothing else is available. When All Else Fails, Amateur Radio is still working.” Details on Field Day can be found at www.k2jji.org/Field-Day
