Don't know a thing about the radio, but I'm lovin' that Astron.
Good luck on your General... you're gonna love your new privileges

My first HF station was a Hammerlund HQ-170 receiver and a Viking 2 transmitter fed into a 15 meter dipole in my attic. I "upgraded"to a Hallicrafters HT-46 transmitter some months later.Regardless of anything you will always have a fondness for your first radio. I wish I still had mine. Good luck!

Too true! I miss mine.
Everyone told me I was crazy to buy that Ten-Tec Century 21. "It's CW only!" they cried. "There's no WARC bands!" they warned. But it was a complete station, with all the accessories, for a good price. So I bought it, and had a BLAST using it with a long wire from my 3rd-floor room run out a good hundred yards between trees. RF got everywhere (40 meters would bite the heck out of me if I wasn't careful). But it was my station, it heard well, and I liked CW.
Then one day I decided I wanted a more modern rig, sold the 21 station and got tube-hybrid rig at a hamfest. I've regretted it ever since.
One day I'll get another C21 station just for nostalgia's sake.

All I need is 20pf of capacitance, 20 volts DC, 20cc of mouse blood and a creative way to go "MWAHhahahahaHAAAAA!"
