I guess yesterday the ARRL formally submitted a Petition for Rule Making to the FCC regarding their proposal for Restructuring. Hmm, I guess all our moaning did not make them modify the proposal. Shocking.

So I guess now we wait until there is an opportunity to officially comment on the proposal on the FCC web-site? Does that mean we are done talking about it here?

#Hi, Paul. #Hehe, I doubt the topic is finished here. #As mentioned in some previous post, I seriously doubt the FCC will approve something as "extreme" as this. #I plan on taking my 5 w.p.m. at the end of February...I am quite excited too. #Wish me luck! #I copied the W1AW code broadcast at 7.5 w.p.m. with no problem, so, I am not too worried about the test. #Assuming the FCC approves it, only time will tell what type of people it brings in. #"Riff-Raff" or the same, "ordinary, average guys"? #Sorry, listening to "Joe Walsh" music, haha.

Don't count on it.

In 1951 the FCC gave all existing licensees all of the privileges. In 1991 they approved the first no code license. In 2000 the lowered code testing requirements from 13 and 20 wpm to 5 wpm. In 1968 they took away many privileges from those who had already earned them, cutting across all license classes. You can argue that these changes were either good or bad, but some of them were certainly pretty extreme.

It would not surprise me at all if the FCC said the heck with it and gave everyone presently licensed all privileges and required a simple 25 or 35 question test on safety, regulations, and operational practice for new people coming in. (not that I advocate it

Nah....this will go on for at least a couple more months on here, anyway But hey, now it's all about "the proposal" and not code/no code! Coincidence? I think not. The ARRL was probably just as tired of all the NC/KC BS and figured they'd try to fix it for good! Seems to me that its working! ...and it's not even FCC rules yet! The code debate has taken a backseat to this! (But the techs should STILL have to take element 3 to upgrade)

Heh, I think she runs a broadcast station on 40M late at night! Nothing like a shrill +35 signal of opera to send you scurrying to turn the VFO!
get a signal.......
