IC-7800 went belly up! What to do . . . what to do . . . ?????

Yes they sent me a detailed email with all the part required to fix it. As suspected, the output transistors went belly-up, a problem that many 7800s have had apparently. There was also a small transistor controlling the first receiver RF Preamp that blew out when I had a nearby lightning strike. They also wanted to replace the crystal oscillator, but it required a completely new board as the new crystal would not fit the old board. That fix alone was more than what was broken, so I politely declined.

Maybe if I'm lucky I'll have it by the New Years Day net!!

I'm sure you will be glad to get it back on the air for sure and I'm sure the $75 was well spent on the radio 8>)

I must say it was quite a change when I received my 5000 still had the 7700 a lot of difference. But then this I just had to buy a used K3/100 now have 2 loaded plus a P3/SVGA/KPA500 amp/KAT500 auto tuner/W2 wattmeter/K2/100/KAT100 and soon a KX3 QRP rig oh yes an XG3 signal generator wonderful tool to own for a small bench.
