Lightbulb A Better Transmatch for an Amateur Radio Operator! PALSTAR AT2K(BALUN VERSION!)!

This Transmatch(MFJ-969) has it's sensing circuitry too close to other circuits.

I would prefer to use a Transmatch that kept the sensing circuits somewhat "isolated" from other circuits.

Try using a Transmatch with no extras inside and an external Wattmeter / V.S.W.R. meter combination.

The following Transmatch(MFJ-901B) has no sensing circuitry. It can't interfere them. It's also well proportioned inside.
Circuits are direct. Less of an opportunity to induce stray R.F. inside. It's a step-inductor, but at least it's an air-
    core inductor.

I found a MUCH BETTER Transmatch!

    --------------------

There seem to be 2(two) versions of this transmatch. I think the one with the internal balun is the better one.

P.S.: Sorry about the size of the pictures. They were the only ones I could find that were still relevant! I usually
watch the scale on pictures. I hope this isn't a problem.
P.P.S.: Joe(JOE-KB3ZGV), please take note! This would be a better instrument for you to utilize!

    so what
you compare two bargain MFJ tuners
    with a high end Palstar

why don't you compare the Palstar
with a real balanced no balun

    Johnson KW Matchbox

    heck

the little Johnson Matchbox can handle legal limit
the big Johnson Matchbox can handle 3 KW

    MFJ-989D (updated version of 969): around $300

Palstar AT-2K with balun: around $500.

And, as Mac mentioned, neither is really designed to handle open-wire line.

For that, you should use a double-L network tuner such as the Palstar BT-1500 (around $650).

Or, better yet, homebrew your own (not that difficult): http://www.somis.org/bbat.html

I am shocked! You think a $500 Palstar is better than an MFJ $300 transmatch? Who would have expected that?

Actually, to divert a bit, making one yourself is one of the more cost effective solutions out there; especially if one has a decent junk box. Not sure how many other items fit into that category; certainly a sound card interface is one of the top candidates as are wire antennas.

    It is? I'm absolutely shocked.

I agree with Mac except I think the KW matchbox can handle 4KW PEP.
i'm sorry you don't have the experience or understanding to realize that others possess a skill set that you seem to dismiss as fantastical.

That's a surprise, I'm going to die from not surprise.
There are some that advocate other tuners and don't like the Palstar offerings.
    Glad you're happy
