A long time ago when Telrex was in business, they didn't have their own range but used the one at Ft. Monmouth (Army). That was a cool deal, but then they were building antennas a long time before computer modeling was available.

Mike Staal's (K6MYC) home station could be sort of a range: Mike has big towers and property.
Hy Gain HAD one, back when they were in Nebraska. To my knowledge, Cush Craft never had a full sized one, but I was told they scaled their models to vhf to test them. Mosley does have an antenna range.
I suppose with computer modeling, it is now possible to predict all the parameters of a Yagi Antenna. But, I still like the idea of an Antenna actually being tested on an antenna range, if for no other reason then to verify that the computer predictions hold true for the assembled production antenna.

I am a bit confused when it comes to computer modeling triband yagi's with traps. I was told it could not be done, but then I read on Tower Talk that the Hy Gain Explorer 14 I own was "computer modeled to perfection" by Roger Cox at Hy Gain ?

I have also noted that ARRL considers computer modeling to be so accurate, they now allow computer generated gain numbers to be advertised in QST.

Maybe Ham Nation will one day get hold of an antenna engineer who develops triband and monoband Yagi's, and have him take us through the design process !

WIK: did you ever get that 'bananaphone' for real since your last appearance?

The one I showed there actually rotted out before the warranty expired. I got a dozen new ones for $1.99.

M meant to ask you about that; isn't a bit difficult to wire one of those up?

Great video. I think Steve has kindly assisted me on the few questions I've posted on QRZ, and I've read a ton of his posts. He is a true asset to the QRZ.com community.

The reason Steve looks so pampered is the fact he and his wife have 5 girls (or there a bouts). I'm told that everyone of them answers "Thank you daddy" to all inquires.

Thought WIK got his pic on a No-Ox Can, the ham version of the milk carton.

Really?? Steve's face looks like a carriage?
It would really help new amateurs who want to build antennas to find an older copy of the ARRL Antenna book. There are too few explanations and too little data in the current editions. By old I mean say pre-1989. Cruise hamfest tables and Ebay, there are plenty available pretty cheap.
