Default Echo Link Outbound Drop-out issues

    Hello Group,

I'm running Echo Link in Sysop mode on my repeater system. I'm experiencing audio drop-outs on outbound transmissions. When audio does go out, it sounds good. Incoming seems to work fine whether it's another repeater, computer user, or phone user calling in. I've connected to the Echo Test server and have heard the problem there as well. The drop-outs last anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds. I also experience an anomaly when trying to connect to another node: after entering the digits via DTMF thru my repeater, nothing happens. I hear no 'not connected' or 'node not found' message. Not sure if these two problems are related. Does anyone have any clues?

    Thanks, Rich W6GHZ

When you say outbound transmissions are you referring to outbound from the repeater or outbound from Echolink?

    Mark,

I am referring to outbound Echo Link transmissions to the nodes I am connecting to. The repeater is working well.

Ok, so if you have an Internet link where the downlink and uplink speeds are different, you can expect what you are seeing. What type if Internet connection do you have on on your Echolink connection?

It's ATT 'Fast Access DSL'. It claims speeds up to 1.5 Mbps but that's probably the inbound speed. Echo Link shouldn't be consuming that much bandwidth. This DSL connection is dedicated to Echo Link, meaning nothing else should be using the internet on this connection. The ATT modem connected to the computer at the repeater site shows all lights operating normally. We are using a WB2REM Echo Link interface between the computer and repeater controller.

Your connection should be fast enough.

You may want to try to adj your audio level Down some for a test.

Many ISPs will drop data when the bit rate is overloaded due to over modulation.

Just a guess, But I have seen that happen many times. Also another program on your computer could be CPU hogging.

    Good Luck.

Interesting possibility. Thanks Don. I'll look into that. I'll also look at task manager and see if anything's consuming resources. There shouldn't be.
