Is this project a fail or do you have any ideas? WebSDR server on old laptop
As y'all may know, I run a WebSDR server on an Ubuntu desktop machine for my SoftRock Lite II on 30 meters (ti2na7u.zapto.org:8080). I was hoping to move it to an old x24 Thinkpad (PIII) and got Lubuntu installed, the server running, but then I noticed the spectrum was funny. Two halves, mirror images of one another. I think this is probably because the sound card can't even manage 44 KHz sampling, or can only take mono input, though I haven't found any detailed specs to confirm that.
Anyone more knowledgeable about external sound cards than I am think there is something I can do to salvage this? There is a Creative Labs PCMCIA card that I could use, but I have doubts it will run under Linux. I'm pretty sure the USB ports are only v1.1 so I'm guessing also that there wouldn't be enough bandwidth to support 16-bit stereo from a USB sound card. ??

Hi,
I am sorry as i have no experience with this to help, but a offtopic question, how do you get to run WebSDR node ? Do you contact the author
or there is some secret download location for the soft ?

USB 1.1 can certainly handle one channel of stereo audio.
Search the web to see if anyone has written Linux drivers for the Creative PCMCIA card.

Yes, Chris, you contact PA3FWM (see websdr.org for his contact info) and make a request to use the software. He sends it in an e-mail. He's somewhat selective about who he sends it you as he states on the site. If you are the umpteenth guy in your area on 40 meters for instance, then he'd be less inclined to add another server there.

Linux drivers for some of the Creative cards are there.
