Wanna bet?
Ruger sent me a pre-paid UPS box and label for me to ship my P85 to them in Prescott AZ. I didn't want it sent back to my house and asked if they could send it to the gun shop when it was done. Nope, it had to go back to the same place on the label so they sent the gun shop a new pre-paid label and box. I still have the original label with Ruger's address and mine (I am not a dealer) on it.

I should be able to walk into any store that sells firearms and buy one, take it home that day and have the firearm not registered.
I don't recall seeing registration mentioned in the Second Amendment.
None of my guns are registered and they are all legal.

Older guns or different laws in different states? Both my newest hunting rifle and my pistol are registered. My older rifles and shotguns on the other hand are not nor were they required to be when they were bought.

There's the rub. The rules are so different from state to state, it's almost like guns are both protected by and exempt under the Constitution. Sue, I have done exactly that for two handguns purchases in the last 3 years. The last one was in May and it took less than 10 minutes from the time I completed the paperwork to the conclusion of the sale. It was in a gun shop and not a private sale. The background check took 5 minutes. But then again, I have never been arrested. None of my weapons are registered.
As far as the laws governing guns and which you can and cannot have. In my opinion, they are as stupid as "the Rule of Thumb" (Google it if you don't know what I mean). A person killed with an allowed versus not allowed weapon as still just as dead. You can see the effectiveness of laws like the Brady Act. And why can the federal government enact laws like Brady, but the states are deferred to for gun laws?

Consider this: Each .308 shell costs about a buck and a half. A person can easily empty a 20 round clip in less than 5 seconds. That's 30 dollars in 5 seconds, or 6 dollars a second to shoot.
A .223 costs about a buck a round. I just bought a bag of 20 out of a bulk case for 15 bucks. New in the box rounds are 20-30 bucks per 20 round box.
My .223 has a 40 round clip that I can empty in 9 seconds. That's semi-auto, pulling the trigger 40 times.
9 seconds to shoot $40 worth of ammo.
Full auto has proven to be less effective in warfare than single fire or bursts. Aside from ballistic issues, Ammo is not cheap nor light and the less used to do the job, the better.
Where the heck are you buying ammo?
$.45/rd in a 20 round box.

$.44/rd in a 50 round box.

Here, $1/rd, but nobody 'plinks' with stuff like this, 'Custom Ammo'...
http://www.cabelas.com/product/Horna....223+amunition
Here's what you 'plink' with:
$.38/rd, Federal brand, probably from the Lake City plant (good brass and mil-spec primers), brass cartridge, FMJ

And you bought those out of a bulk bag?!?!
Mind you, this is all from Cabelas, you can do better than this online:
http://www.ammoman.com
$.36/rd if you buy a case, no tax (yet) and free shipping!

Heh. I still have 1000 rounds of .223 I bought for under $100 from Cheaper Than Dirt -- oddly enough on September 11, 2001.
Those days are gone, so I'm saving it for a rainy day and am content with shooting .22 LR for entertainment.

Clarification: UPS website states "where not otherwise prohibited by federal, state or local law (i) from an individual to a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector; and (ii) from a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to an individual."

Things may have changed but I shipped a skeet grade 20 ga. side by side for barrel work to the manufacturer via UPS with no problems whatsoever. I did have to declare what it was and that it was not loaded if I remember correctly.

I agree, but it's been generally ruled that mandatory gun registration does not violate the Second Amendment. (See Heller and McDonald). While the Second doesn't mention registration, that is the specific argument: it doesn't prohibit it either.
