Default Et some Alley Gator today

At the Tanana Valley Fair, there were some fellers selling alligator on a stick. Not the whole alligator...it was sort of like a sausage. Kinda spicy and tasted a bit like.....um...er.....alligator I guess.

Hmm. And I thought it would be about a homeless UF alumnus.

Alligator in Alaska. Who'da thunk it? Thanks for sharing with us that you ate a little tail...

I like it best cut up in strips, battered, and fried--like clam strips. Some people like the steaks. The "secret" recipe used in many Florida venues is to sprinkle before battering (and a bit in the batter as well) with a seasoning mix called 'Everglades Seasoning'. http://www.evergladesseasoning.com/

The first time I tried it, I did not know what it was. Pretty tasty--and tasty enough that when told the eating did not stop. I sometimes miss Walt's Fish Market down in Sarasota...

When I was a kid I always looked forward to the annual wild game feast put on by the local chapter of Duck Unlimited.

There were samples of all manner of exotic and endangered animal there for you to taste for one rather small fee.

Alligator was on the fare most years but one year there was crocodile as well. I have to say with all the spices on the two different reptiles I really couldn't taste any difference.

I did like the Oryx a lot though. It tasted like American buffalo or maybe a really good lean roast beef to me.
