    Default Moneypak issues

I sold a radio locally and was given cash so I needed to get the money into PayPal so I could purchase a new radio. I am retired military and bank with USAA which has no local branches, so a deposit was not an option. I looked online and saw that you could purchase a MoneyPak card from Walmart and transfer that money directly into PayPal. So I rush to walmart, go to the first aisle with the cards and gave them all my cash for it. I get home and go to PayPal and it is asking me to scratch the silver part off the card and get the number for the transfer. Problem, the card had no silver part and no number. After some research I discovered that WalMart still had the older version of the card and was still selling them. I called the MoneyPak hotline and they are researching it and said it would be one business day. They assured me my money is safe, but I am still leery. It is hard to be reassured when you have $800 tied up in a piece of paper that right now is doing you no good. Has anyone else had issues with MoneyPak?

That type of transaction should be done at the service desk.

Cards on the floor are a problem waiting to happen.

I would talk to the Main Manager of the store where you bought the card.

Also make a copy of the disappearing ink receipt.

I spent two hours on hold today. I finally got the number I needed and was able to get the money into my paypal. Word of warning, if anyone uses this option to put cash into your paypal make sure you get the moneypak card that has a scratch-off area on the back!

Check the Wal-mart receipt and see if they printed the number on it for you. The card itself may be nothing more than a holder of the UPC for the cahsier to scan.

    Good luck!

The receipt had the fourteen digit number, but the first ten digits were defaulted to zero's. That is the way new cards are handled at the register because people were throwing away their receipts and their money was getting stolen. The biggest thing to prevent this is make sure you buy the new type of card that has a paypal and ebay logo in the upper right hand corner. If I go to a store and see the old cards on display I will be sure to tell them they need to be removed. The people at MoneyPak stated that if a store has them available to let them know and they will call them to ensure they only sell the proper type of cards.

WM used to have it together, but not so much anymore.

Around here people get ripped off when they buy gift cards.

The internet lets anyone use them, and many times it is a inside job.

If you have your paypal account tied to a credit card, you can still pay using 'paypal' and have it charged to your credit card for $0 expense and no hassle.

And I figure if something goes sour, you theoretically have the paypal protection for whatever that's worth, and the credit card protection too, for whatever that's worth.

We caught a cashier stealing from people who had Gift Cards they received as Christmas gifts.
A kid would go up with a $20 gift card and buy a $14 DVD, she would bag the DVD and receipt but not hand back the Gift Card telling the kid THAN YOU.
    And off he would walk.
If someone questioned her she would say " oops, I'm sorry here is your Gift Card back "
Evidently she had quite the haul in her trash bin.

I didn't even know what MoneyPak was until I read this thread but should I ever need to use it I will know what cards are good!
