    Default Regency ACT-106 scanner HELP???

    Hi there

I was wondering if anyone on the forum might be familiar with this scanner, a Regency ACT-106 it is a crystal 10 channel set but I have no idea how to program a crystal set to local frequencies? any help would be appreciated.

--If it's a scanner that takes crystals, that means you can only receive whatever those ten crystal frequencies are. All ten crystals inside should have a frequency listed on them. Except for possibly tuning a few kc above and below the frequency (not sure if it can be done in a scanner, but I can with my Drake TR-33), you can only receive ten frequencies, no programming. You would have to buy an entirely new crystal if you wanted a new frequency.

There are crystal manufacturers that keep records of the method to calculate the actual crystal frequency and all you have to do is give them the receive frequency you want. They do the rest and send you the crystal. Be forewarned, crystals are not cheap and for the price it would take to populate the ACT-106 you could have purchased a really good scanner with much greater capabilities. If you're trying to monitor just one frequency like a 2 meter repeater then this may not that bad of an idea.

If it is the ACT-R-106 you have, you can download the manual from Mods.DK

Do an Internet search for Crystals. There are some companies that have some stock ones they sell pretty cheap, if you know what crystal frequency you need. Quite a few are sold on ebay as well.

If you find some old CB walkie talkie crystals or others in that will fit, plug them in and give them a try. Many years ago I bought a Regency low band scanner and Radio Shack was selling CB crystals on clearance, very cheap. I plugged some of those in the scanner and started picking up stuff right away.

    Good Luck!

International Crystals in Oklahoma City, OK, can sell you crystals for that scanner.

Having said all that, before you spend money for crystals, you should check to see if the local police, fire, and rescue have switched to UHF digital transmissions and trunking or not. If they
have switched to UHF digital transmissions and trunking, this scanner will be useless to you for monitoring UHF digital and trunking transmissions. This scanner does not have trunking
capabilities nor will it receive digital voice transmissions either.
