It's wabun, yes: KO N NI CHI .... but I'd expect the last syllable to be "WA", not "da" or "ta". (WA would be -.-)
And I suppose the two dits at the end are like the two dits at the end of lots of ham QSOs: not official, but widely used.

Amateur Radio Newsline stated the LED array will only be active over Japan, so I guess we don't have to argue over what they spell out.

Thanks for posting this interesting story about lights in the sky! Sure hope it's visible in the skies over NA ??
It's amazing what can be seen with the naked eye sometimes. A few years ago, there was a large sphere with shiny mirrors attached to it called the Starshine satellite. It twinkled as it moved across the sky from reflected sunlight. Perhaps this satellite will be visible also?

Thanks again for the posting! I'll be watching in early September now.

In wabun (Japanese code), .-.-. represents "N". That's the only consonant sound that you'll find at the end of a correctly-written-in-English-letters Japanese syllable. The ---- is the syllable "KO".

    You're welcome! Do itashimashte ***! Nana-juu san.

***The forum tells me that you should add the letter "i" between the "h" and the "t" at the end of the word. Sumimasen.
