I never see any Elecraft equip for sale. Are there just not any around? Or are they so good no one wants to part with one?

yes indeed, folks who buy K3s are so tickled with them, they always keep them, and probably buy a 2nd for a spare! The Elecraft line has proven to be the most successful Ham Radio line made stateside and is giving the JAs alotta competiton and worry! I've never heard anyone say a bad word about Elecraft. I would be so happy to have one myself!

Once in a while you see them come up for sale but I also think the latter is true. Their products perform extremely well, I liked the performance of the K2 that I had. I spent many hours building it, all the options, etc. I wound up selling mine a few years ago as I found I was not using it.. I was using my "full sized" HF transceiver more. It was too big for my portable needs. A few years later I bought/built a KX-1, I only want CW out in the field and I wanted something less cumbersome. With just a wire up literally tossed in the trees I have worked alot of stateside and a fair amount of DX just casually sitting on the deck on a nice day. I think people hold onto them as they are simply great products. For those that built them, alot of effort and time goes into building one so they tend to hold onto that.

I have had terrific success with QTH.com in terms of purchasing radio gear. Compared to eBay it's 20dB better & compared with the stuff on QRZ it's_____________.

I have seen used K3's for sale on here, qth, eham, and ebay on occasion but not often. I do however see K2's and K1's up for sale quite often.

I see them for sale quite frequently. Usually the people who are buying up the K2's are selling thier FT817's. The guys selling the K2's are doing so to upgrade to the K3, and the guys selling the K3's are upgrading to Heathkits lol.

I haven't seen many Elecraft radios for sale either, but when I have, it's because the owner is upgrading to the next rig in the Elecraft line. That means not many K3s are ever offered for sale.

Speaking of Elecraft, I wonder how long it would take the average person to put a K3 together. Anyone have any idea?

It dosen't look like factory built is too much more. Looks like $3500 could get you a pretty decent rig.

Remember, Elecraft is a relatively new company. It earliest offerings (K1, K2 series), while still available, did not originally sell in huge quantities -- certainly enough to fuel the success of the company, though. The equipment is top notch, and they have an excellent reputation (well deserved) for quality, and for customer support.

As a result, Elecraft gear tends to be sparse on the used market. It tends to command a premium, and sell quickly.

BTW, I know of a K3/100 owner who is considering parting with his K2. Want me to let you know if he decides to sell it?
