If this was on the 20 meter band and we overpowered the garage doors would we all pitch in and buy them a new openers? The military has no liability in this mater. Some Lawyer will probably start a class action suit against the Manufacturer of Garage door openers, netting the owners $3 each making the lawyer rich and costing the jobs of the people who make them.

You didn't understand the article. Those frequencies are RESERVED for military use.
The Garage door opener manufacturers are SECONDARY UNLICENSED users, and not subject to any protection or remedy whatsoever. The fact that they chose to use those reserved frequencies at the risk of interference is THEIR PROBLEM. I feel sorry for the customers, but the manufacturer is to blame 100%.
And the "manager" at Overhead Door is being an idiot, claiming it's not their fault, and putting the blame on "Homeland Security".

Seems to me that since the door company is using freq's without permission to do so they should be liable and repair the systems that are affected...

As a civillian first responder, I am damned glad my tax dollars paid for that system, and would be glad to give them some more. Communications between us and DOD units during incidents has notoriously been abhorant for years. This causes logistical nightmares that delay assistance, sometimes in life threatening ways. So, to be frank, if poor ol' Ms Puffenpoodle has to open her garage door the old fashioned way, or God forbid, park her Caddy outside, I'm OK with it.
"Tax dollars at work" You sound like the typical uninformed old grouch driving by a state project pissed off because every single person on site doesn't have a shovel in their hands....

Negotiate a solution
My recommendation would be for the affected owners to get together and find an attorney to petition the manufacturer of the garage door openers. I would think that a good attorney could negotiate a change in the control boards and remotes for these door openers. One possible solution would be for the owners to offer to pay the cost of a replacement control board with receiver and remote device if the manufacturer pays for the replacement installation. That would sound pretty fair to me unless the Mfg. decides the control boards are $600.00 each (to covering their labor for replacement as well...) But, it is an idea.
The alternative is to go to their local home store, buy a new garage door opener and have it installed or install yourself ensuring it is on a frequency that will not be affected by the military's radio system....

No mention of what the real problem is. If it's a repeater system maybe they could make it tone operated since if its an open system possibly a high gain antenna breaks the squelch jamming up the cheap garage doors. I doubt dispatchers or security talks very much. Then the dreaded jammers might of been opted for with the navy station not wanting to mention such. If its jammers maybe somebody could make an extra million swapping directional antennas into the system to help community relations.
Or they can request this $900 million in their neighborhood. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea-based_X-band_Radar

Might I remind you that Ms Puffenpoodle and the other citizens pay your first responder wages. Your post is typical of public service worker arrogance. I retired from public service and I never maintained your self-righteous posture. You're not as important as you might think.
