John W. Montgomery, 64, of Erie, died Monday evening September 28, 2009 at the VA Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.
A resident of Erie since 1994 he was born in Oneonta, NY on September 19, 1945 a son of the late Alden and Edna Davis Montgomery.

John was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War. He was a traveling musician and owner of South Wind Sound Productions since 1994. He was an amateur radio operator in Cattaraugus and Erie Counties Emergency Communications Group and a member of the I.A.N.D.S. Organization.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Russell Montgomery.
Survivors include his longtime love and partner, Joan Keleman; two brothers, Donald Montgomery of South Carolina and his twin brother, James Montgomery and his wife Patricia of Little Genesee, NY. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, (corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave.) on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and are invited to services there on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m.. Burial with military honors will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the VA Hospital 135 East 38th Street, Erie, 16504.
