Default my 500kc PTO in progress

Well, this isn't the fancy rack and pinion drive I wanted, but I might be able to make this work. Something to do with all these ferrite slugs I picked ujp at Dayton!

That's way cool and that coil looks just about large enough for the task.

Thanks! This is going to be at the core of my 600 meter direct conversion receiver. You know we have a new band between 472 and 479 Khz!

I do and I can't wait to see how it works for you.
Being in the middle of a city the man made noise here is horrable below 1700KC.

You might try a small tuned loop for reception. It's possible to get a real sharp null with one of these....unless of course, the noise is coming from everywhere.

Its nice and quiet on my long Beverages thru the woods in the boonies, they are also very directional considering they are only 500-700' and Im able to pull out various beacons, CW QSO's and lots of NDB's. Using the TS-950SD mostly.

The new TX antenna will be finished when the fall weather arrives.

Very nice. I hope your mechanicals are sturdy. My first attempts suffered from microphony until I stiffened things up a bit.

I have been giving that some thought for another project however it would work well for this with only a little modification.

Indeed...'tis been a learning experience. You just can't have the slug flapping in the breeze...it has to be supported entirely along its journey!

Well I got it oscillating! I decided to use an old school Armstrong oscillator. It needs a couple of extra windings, but it allows you to use a low impedance transistor like a 2n2222, and I didn't have any fet's lying around. Seems to be thermally stable, and reasonably clean. Now for a buffer.
