Eric;
Let us know what you find.
I want to build a permeability tuned preselector.

There's a guy on Hackaday who built a PTO (Conventional screw thread format)

Hi Sue:
A permeability tuned preselector should be nowhere near as touchy as an oscillator. I did, however, figure out to tame my screw-drive pto...I coated the threads with really thick grease to damp out the slop. (Standard household machine screws are NOT precision devices!
Stay tuned......pun intended.

Model car gear sets for the rear axle perhaps ?

The more I've learned about the mechanical stability issue of PTOs, the more attractive "official" linear actuators look...and they're getting to be downright cheap!

They used to use them in car radios in VK back in the day,probably in the USA,too,though they may not be accurate enough.

I would agree with earlier suggestion -- check out the parts for high-end Radio Control (RC) cars.... Some use rack and pinion steering.
