Default TS-130 intermittent signal RX/TX and Low Audio Volume

newly acquired TS-130S. Thinking this is TR relay issue. Thoughts anyone on why in/out signals intermittent and very low audio volume. S meter stays at S9 also.

First suspect would be mic and mic wiring. Look for broken wires at mic and at connector, etc.

S meter stuck at S9, check the RF Gain Control first, rotate it fully while watching the S meter.

RF Gain Control works by changing the sensitivity of the AGC circuit, you use the S meter to see exactly where it is kicking in...

Seems related more to TR relay. any ideas on how to clean the relay contacts?

Do you have the user manual for this product? Sounds like you need to take the cover off and start tracing through the circuit. Schematic is in the user manual.

Kenwood has a pdf of the owners manual on their support site.

User and Service manuals. Just don't have the needed test gear. Well, time to open up for exploratory "surgery"

The symptoms you describe sound exactly like my 130 when the mode switch is acting ip. Try rocking the switch to see if the signal "clears up", dirty/worn contacts are a common problem with these rigs.

I'm not sure if this applies to the 130s, but my 1982 TS830s had similar problems. After taking the case off, using DeOxit on ALL switches and pots, and removing eache connector then spraying the contacts with a little deoxit and connecting and removing multiple times, 90% of my intermittent issues were resolved.
