All of my sons girl friends in the last ten years have been from California, I can see why he likes them. By the way he lives in Utah.

Well, I don't know who you are or if you even live in CA, but the stats quoted by me are based on "violent crimes," not misdemeanors or even felonies which don't involve physical attacks, and are from the FBI crime stats. For "violent crimes" (homocides, rapes, attemped murders, and also including kidnapping, armed robbery, etc.), CA is "below average," along with the other "affluent" states. Can't dispute the data, it's all over the place.

I don't consider drug offenses, even "dealing," to be violent crimes unless weapons or threats of bodily harm are involved, which they mostly aren't. We have some powerful gangs here who go around knocking each other off, but the instances of them knocking non-gangers off are fairly rare and seem to be mostly mistakes. If stopped by a gang-banger and asked, "Where you from?" it pays to say "Beverly Hills...where are you from?"

Yup lived in Central CA, since I was four.
I have seen some scary stuff first hand that never results in an arrest.
In our neck of the wood random violence is the norm not the exception, home invasions have been very bad lately.
I personally live in a more rural area so car jackings are not too bad as the baddies feel your going to have a gun.
but overall crime has gone nuts and it's not truly being tracked so the numbers look good but the reality is not a reflection of the numbers.
