Baofeng hand helds

Has anyone acquired a Baofeng hand held recently, and if so what is your honest opinion?

i own a uv 3r markII and a uv54


the uv 5r is nice, its watts and the 1800mah hour lasts a long time.

the uv3r is ok, batteries die pretty quick with long qso's

other that that they are cheap ht's with soem neat and sometimes unneccasry extras.

I have the 3-R Mark 2. Works very well, good audio output. Difficult to program, I still haven't figured it all out, but I do have the most
important freqs in. Krummy manual as usual. But a real bargain. Uses common camera battery.

Very small and light, fits my shirt pocket along with other things.

Don't buy the earlier single-display (not Mark 2).

I carry mine around town in preference to my V80 and T90A.

Thanks guys. I have read some bad reviews about this HT though, and decided to go with a Yaesu FT60. I'm not sure I trust Chinese kit after 25 years with Yaesu, Icom etc.

I have both an FT-60 and UV-3R Mk II. Both are good radios, but the FT-60 is much easier to program and tune manually and feels more sturdy. The UV-3R works well and no one complains about the audio, etc... I did get the cable and software with mine, which makes it easier (but not as easy as the big three) to program.

I have both the UV-3R+ and the UV-5R.

My UV-3R has a Display problem where it is flaky for the first few minutes of operation. Then it is ok.

The 5R is superior in every way, and gets rid of the clunky digital volume control and power switch.
Works much MUCH better, and 5W is enough power to get out.

So I have relagated the 3R to TOY service!

You are right. Took delivery of an FT60 this week, and the build quality and features are superb. Easy to programme too. Far superior to Chinese radios I think.

I have had my Baofeng UV-5R for over 6 months now, and I love it! I can't see wasting hundreds more for any other 2m/440 radio.
