Newest pictoral adventure thread
I had Friday off from work, so I wanted to get out on the wheeler a bit. I had a meeting in the early afternoon so I could not go too far. Fortunately, there is a nice mountain range just a few miles from my house. Loaded up and headed out.

Here, you can see town from the side of the mountain. When I say that it is close, I mean it. We're at about 5500ft here, but the mountain is 8500ft and shoots up almost vertically. Lots of slow switchbacks to get there.
Deep in the trees, our cabin sits. I had to stop and take a look. Cabin is a trappers cabin from 1938. Very comfortable when the weather sucks up there.

Driving up and over the mountain, we actually pass through a valley onto the next range. This is called Muddy Mtn. and is starting to get a little more remote. If you look, you can see the top of an old collapsed homestead.

There is still a cattle penning station on top. Here is whats left. There is also the old scale house with scale in place. I don't have the pics, but the bunk house and outhouse are nearby for the caretaker. It was long ago abandoned, but still stands.

More to come.

Nice country! A bit to rustic for my YL. Heck, it might even be too remote for me but it sure is nice to look at!

Great pix, Brad.
Nice mini-adventure.
With the (beautiful!) trapper cabin so remote, do you ever worry about vandals?

Swans and Drakes do NOT belong in lakes. Maybe some Heathkits do, depending on who built them .

Once done sight seeing, I headed into the wooded area.
I decided to retrace the steps from when I was helicoptered off the mountain for a snakebite in 2007. Here is the trail head and canyon where I was that fateful day.

Here is the canyon wall I had to climb up to get out.

Once up the trail, I had a very nice view of the BLM RAWS weather station. This is supposed to be hidden but I found it several years ago. SHHHHH!!!

Here is the view from the weather station. Without the heavy smoke, you can normally see several hundred miles.

I found a nice spot and had my MRE lunch. Beef Enchilada and refried beans. YuMM!! I had a great view while doing it as well.

All in all, a good day.

Nah, never been a problem. We find a lot of snowshoe tracks behind the cabin at the old asbestos mine, but never any closer than that.

We've been over 100 for almost 2 weeks straight. It's actually nice today though. So far, only in the 50s. And on the mountain it was not far above freezing.
