Over the 4th of July I got a reply to my wanted ad for IC-7600. Person acting as Mark Limbeck (NZ9Y) offered to sell me his "magnificent", as he called it, transceiver.
He had a legitimate-looking email NZ9Y@att.net, he sent me pictures, told me he bought the rig at HRO in spring 2011 and he even called me on the phone, as I requested. That is where things got funny. First his accent was very think and he sounded nervous. Then through the phone I heard a lot of car honking on the street (really in Lakeville Minnesota where NZ9Y supposed to be calling me from). And then he told me he has (get this) "a banker with an impressive service record" and we can do a wire transfer as a payment. That is where I started laughing and told him he was a lousy con artist. I hope I can inform real Mark (NZ9Y) of the activity behind his name and have a warning posted on his profile.
This is a real problem - be careful, check and re-check everything before sending any money.
All the best.
Sergei / KK4GEP / 73.
