    Kenwood TS-590.

I just acquired one some weeks back, it has an awesome receiver. I'm still learning the ropes or would comment more. There's a nice balance between buttons and knobs for frequently needed functions and menus for those not so often needed.

At least you caught it before the Spelling Police, that's a plus.

I've been looking for a couple of year and I finally sat down and made a list of what I want the new rig to do and basically 2 things won out.
1st weight--I'm taking it to remote sites--packing it in down and back up the beach trails.
2nd sound--I have to be able to hear it.
I ran a TS-820s for a long time and it sounded wonderful, but I was not going to pack the 37 lb beast and support equipment up and down the trails. I did come to appreciate the sound available from Kenwood old Hybrids though and it has spoiled my ear for many of the new rigs. I finally went to down to HRO and looked and listened to the rigs I was considering. Over all, for me, the FT-857D is what I have found to be the rig. Very light weight, selectable power levels, and (this is a show stopper for a lot of the new rigs for me) the sound--I can hear it and it's sound reproduction is pleasing to my ears.

I am sick of my Icom IC-706MK2, and want to replace it. My first choice is the TS-480, but the form factor is too large. 2nd place is the FT-857D, which is the right size but the menus are a nightmare.
3rd choice is the Icom 7000 which is mostly a 706 on steroids. Too bad I don't the room for a TS-480

That's a shame Pat I'm not a Kenwood guy but I like it better than my IC-7000 and either one beats the FT-857D hands down for receivers and being able to see them in any kind of mobile app for ease of use. One thing you might consider Pat is a Lido Mount of some kind for the Kenwood, I have 2 of them one you can see on the bottom of my QRZ page that mounts to a seat mounting bolt on the floor with a gooseneck. It holds my IC-2820 head in the photo and the Kenwood sits on the console on the factory mount. I like the 200w of the HX because I didn't wan't to run an amp mobile.

I just got the 857D yesterday from HRO along with an LDG YT-100 and so far, I've liked it a lot. Heard Singapore on this morning using my 5B-TV.
