    Default Alinco DR-135 Repeater Tone

    Hi,
I am having some issues with my Alinco DR-135 radio. A few days ago the radio would not open the repeater anymore. I put my HT on the antenna and the HT works great. I have checked and double checked the repeater tome settings and that is all fine too. I have done a master reset on the radio as well.

    Unfortunately still nothing.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks,
    Best Regards and 73,

I would suspect that the deviation pot for the sub audible tone has developed an open circuit, as the actual electronics seldom fail. Without a schematic, I don't know how Alinco injects the tones, but most after market units use the arm of the main deviation adjustment. Do you have a schematic?

    Alan,
no I do not, but the unit is still under warranty so, if no one thinks this is some menu type adjustment, then I will just return the unit for repair.

    Thanks,
    Best Regards and 73,

I can't speak for everyone, but I don't fix things that are under warranty, unless it is dead simple. So in this case, I'd ship it back.

Confirming that the "T" is still showing up in the display - indicating that "Tone Encode" is in play?

Have you tried a reset of the unit?

Are you sure the radio is putting out power, and is on frequency? The PL tone is only one reason why the radio may not hit the repeater.

If you don't have a wattmeter, talk to someone at a good distance on a simplex channel to verify power out. If they have tone decode, they can also verify that your PL is or is not working. Double check the repeater offset to verify that you are indeed transmitting on the rpt input channel. Listen to verify on that input channel. It could be that the radio offset is set the wrong direction, set to the wrong spacing, or operating simplex. Most newer radios will read out the TX freq when in TX, but you need to verify that the radio is actually transmitting there.

    Joe,
I spoke to someone on a repeater with a standard offset but no pl tone. I checked output and it is doing the full 50W...SWR is very low too. The radio was working just fine for 5 months and then one morning, when I turned it on, it just wouldn't open the repeater...

Matt, if you're really appreciative, I suspect any decent radio shop who has a service monitor can check to see if the tone is present without charging you. Ask some of your local club member too.
