Problem using HRD withTigertronics Signalink
Just got the USB Signalink a couple of days ago and setup was easy and straightforward. Can't get PTT to trigger, seems to be a problem on the HRD side. Anybody have any experience with this? It's on an ICOM 718 which functions with HRD just fine. I can rec. and decode PSK but not transmit.
Having same issue here. Had HRD loaded on my laptop. I know it worked before but haven't used it in a while. Went to use it on vacation and it didn't key the radio (also an IC-718 with connections made through the DIN connector on the back using the pre-made cable from Tigertronics). I have confirmed the Signalink USB and cables are okay by using a different digital mode which does receive and transmit fine. I uninstalled and re-installed HRD. First, I tried v. 5.23 without any luck. Then, I tried v. 5.0 because I read on here somewhere that was a fix. But, it didn't change things for me. I observe that HRD loads okay. When I click DM780, it loads okay and starts receiving signals. But, when I go to transmit a message, I get a message that DM780 is not connected to HRD. I click "OK" to connect. I get a different error message that tells me something about a port called quotation mark is not a valid port. (I have no idea what that means). When I close that window, the DM780 sends the text in the transmit window and I can hear it through the computer speaker. But, it doesn't key the PTT on the radio and VOX on the radio does not activate. So, I infer the sound is not going to the radio. Again, transmit and receive work fine in the same hardware configuration when using a different software. I don't care to do any of the rig control or logging by HRD. I just want to do the digital modes using DM780. Any help will be appreciated. I'm not a regular forum reader and I'm not sure I'll find my way back to this thread. So, if someone could e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org, that would be great. Thanks for any help!
btw...The computer runs Win7 so I installed the HRD in a directory other than the programs directory. (I've run into problems with the program directory before). Thanks for reading.

Okay, seem to have made progress...found that under Tools in DM780, there is a setting for PTT. I selected "soundcard or VOX." That got my radio to transmit. I ran a couple of tests at near-zero power and it seemed to work fine. When I attempted to make a contact using 20 watts, the program locked up.. .......F this....I'm going to the beach!
HRD / DM-780 has gotten pretty bloated. I gave up on it and went with FLDigi. It doesn't have all the cool features, but it does give you some basic control of the radio and it works well and consistently. We had it up and running for 24 hours solid on Field Day and had no issues other than me clicking the wrong macro buttons.
The only really nit-picky issue I have is when you try to double-click on a callsign to put it in the log window. If the screen just happens to scroll at that very instant nothing happens.
Looks like I'm all set now. I figured that the freeze-up problem must have been a lack of resources in the computer. So, before I started running HRD, I shut down everything else I could on the computer. I just made two QSO's no problem. So, I'm done. It seems to me that "bloated" aptly describes the software. Most of what it is doing, I don't use. But, I stay with it because I occasionally use MT-63 and I don't think Fldigi supports that. Oh well...nothing is perfect, even if it is super-duper.
