Scam on Ham radio gear for Sale section.
I hope anyone did not fall prey to a scammer selling a 746Pro for $750, Ameritron ALS-600 for $650, an AL-80A Amp for $500 just to name a few. It looks like naive and trusting hams are becoming easy picking for the bottom feeders out there. If it looks too good to be true it most likely is. I looked up the call sign and it belonged to a young lady with a tech license. Now, what would a female ham with a tech license be doing giving away so much HF equipment. I Googled her name and the first hit was from someone who was warning everyone and anyone that her ex boyfriend was using her call to rip people off by running fake ham equipment ads on-line.
This particular QRZ post had 19 replies begging to send this guy money by the time QRZ blocked all replies. I tried warning everyone by posting it on the ad but QRZ blocked me while still leaving the ad up for any fool with a little creativity to write to the email address. Now, it makes no sense leaving this up without a warning for other hams to be scammed. As it is it still up with close to 3,000 hit in a matter of hours. I am sure some naive person or persons have already been robber of their money. I think QRZ needs to remove these type of ads immediately and then ask questions late.

I nearly fell for it. The funny thing was, right after I backed out and did a little more research on the person, I had heard multiple people bringing that person up. I know exactly who you're talking about, WY4J.

I keep a list of people who are reported here as being questionable, but was criticized for offering to send it by email.

Also, the orig price for that 746 was $670. I sent PM, then email, then started researching the call. After that, a rush of red flags came up and I eventually cancelled.

I hate scum like that,he should be soundly thrashed with a cat O nine tails made from old coax cables with the PL 259 still on them show him our heritage and employ the use of the Wouff -Hong, of course that is a bit severe but a good cooling in the county hoosegow oughta help stop his keister from trying to rip any of us off. 73, Good work and thanks for letting everyone know so we dont get taken, sooner or later he will rip off the wrong ham who will likely rearrange his anatomy a bit ! Like Gump said, " Stupid is as stupid does"! 73, TNX, Michelle

You know what? I learned a good lesson. Sale locally, show the people the item and that it works. Unless of course you want to pull a real scam, sell the item for almost damn well what it went for new, expect people to pay top dollar for junk, after you've beaten the hell out of it. Oh, and don't you dare pack it well and pay a little extra. Whatever. Sold my AL-80 locally, and I'm glad I did at this point. Before I sold it, I replaced the plate choke, caps, and relay and heck, gave the guy an extra 3-500ZG tube. What am I gonna do with it? Oh yes, I have photos of the rebuild date and time stamped in case anyone wants to learn something. Maybe check out my posts in the technical section. But wait... I can hear it now... what is JUST A TECH doing with such equipment?? God forbid anyone owns, picks up, operates into dummy load, repairs, or builds their own equipment anymore..right? Maybe we should just all be appliance operators and ask top dollar when we get bored with our computers... er hum.. I mean radios. And might I ad, my personal life is just that... my personal life. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone... who cares. Want me in your personal life?

I'm old and may be slow ...... but this back in November 2011 doesn't look good. Someone - elsewhere - felt like they were taken for a ride - or, so it appears. Perhaps back in November 2011 it was another "misunderstanding"? Look and form your own opinion ........ and of course .... "beware" as the names can be changed to protect the guilty.

Like I said .. I'm old .......... however .......... it does make one wonder what MIGHT BE going on with these amps.
What's the 'saying'? Oh yea ............. "Just sayin'". Now, as to that "personal life mentioned in the post up above ....... well?
I love that "transmitting into a "dummy load"!

And that my friend is why people get scammed.
They are GREEDY and want something for nothing!
And then when they jump on it and realize they lost their money they blame ........
Western Union !!!
One person called Western Union a 'despicable company'.
I would imagine if his house was robbed by a person driving Ford truck that he would call Ford a " despicable company ".

Is this what ham radio selling and buying has come to? What ever happened to the honor system, when we treated other hams with the same respect we expected to be treated with? I will no longer deal with anyone from the states who has listed something for sale. I'd rather go without the item.
Scams like this do not surface as much in Canada. If they do I am not hearing about them. Maybe we are lucky that most US hams will not ship to Canada.
