Item: Motorola R390A. Problem: Unit has worked very well for years. Lately (on 40 meters only) It receives about 120 kcs higher than it should (readout). At the beginning,... it was only off about 30 or 40 kcs. Higher than transmitted freq. Now, it's about 120 kcs too high. All other bands are excellent & accurate. Sensitivity is not affected. It seems to have 'leveled out' at about 120 kcs too high, on 40 only. What gives ?? tnx

Clean the bandswitch, especially the part that selects the heterodyne crystal.

Could also be a bad crystal.

Are you sure it's only on the 7Mhz selection?
Check the 22Mhz selection and see if you have a problem there as well. If you do then the 12.5Mhz crystal (Y406) in the crystal oscillator subchassis is in need of replacement.
May be this will help. Got the information from a partial of the R390A schematic. It's at; http://www.jvgavila.com/r-390a-2.gif.
Get back and let us know what happens.

Such talk...you put racing ahead of amateur radio? I mean what's racing got except trills, excitement and a real kick in the pants that makes an E ticket ride look tame and you perfer that to amateur radio?
