    Default ft- 8900r packet

Yaesu ft- 8900r being used for paket. Receives ok but will not connect to a local network. Using mfj 1270c works ok with a yaesu 1500M. Cable connections for both 8900 and 1500 similar.

set up seems ok on 8900R, a baud rate of 1200 being used.

    Any ideas?

Listen to yourself on another receiver, and make sure your audio levels are appropriate. You may also need to set the TX delay on keyup a bit longer - the 8900 might take a bit longer to key up than the 1500.

Audio monitored on another radio sounds OK from the 8900. Don't know how to set TX delay. Will need to look into that.

k0rgr found the txdelay setting - Raised it to 100ms from 30ms - no connection. TNX

ft-8900 manual indicates the use of a tnc with 2 radio ports--1200 and 9600. Any ideas on using an mfj 1270c to get around the problem?

Any one have a good working wiring diagram for the 8900 -1200 baud feeding an MFJ 1270c TNC?

The manual for the 8900 mentions some menu settings you need to check. Apparently you have to choose the baud rate and which VFO will be used for data. They also advise to set the audio level on the packet tones to be about the same level as the DTMF tones from the radio. The interface looks like it's standard. If you are copying inbound packets OK, and transmitting audio where you want to transmit, that looks good. I also believe that the transmitted packets follow the active VFO, no matter which one you designate for packet use - not a good feature. Are you transmitting in the wrong place?

For some reason I can't get the wiring right for transmit between the din connector on the 8900 and the old mfj 1270 (out of production) . It keys up the transmit but no tone. I can connect using a yaesu 1500 with no problem at 1200 radio baud.

All the settings on the 8900 look right. Main vfo, 1200 baud and the right frequency. Only 4 wires needed! Feel dumb!
