Nice Surprise
I was having a nice chat with Fred, K8FER about our Field Day plans and when I sign with him, who comes on and calls me? 5Z4EE!
I have never worked Kenya. It is almost on the other side of the planet. I had seen 5Z4EE on PSK Reporter but had never been at the controls when he was on.
I've tried to get through SSB pileups to Kenya with no luck.
This is the first time a new one has ever called me. Pretty neat.

Surprise is an understatement.
In 52+ years on the air, I have never been called "out of the blue" by a new one.

Thanks. That was number 162 for me in my very casual DX hunt. I don't imagine this happening when I get closer to the end of the list.

In mid 70's I had replying for my phone CQ by Larry KS6DV/KB6 from Canton Island as new one for me. Also big surprise that in 2007 for my RTTY CQ Larry again call me as AH8LG and also give new one on RTTY for me. Both QSO was QSLed very fast.
Is a pity that Larry became SK few weeks ago....
Friend of mine talk me that last year once after CQing on 17meters psk31 ZS8M call him and then after QRZ - call from ZD9GI - 2 new one on DIGI for him for 10 minutes. And both in running mode.

What a great surprise! Congrats on the new one. I only had it happen once, New Caledonia answered my CQ years ago.

Congratulations! It's those nice little surprises that keep the hobby fresh, at least for me. Last week when 17 meters was open to VK and ZL, I took a shot at calling CQ. Who comes back to me but Yuri, KH8PPG. He's on a DXpedition in Pago Pago, American Samoa. Great way to bag a new one. I guess that makes a case for calling CQ every once in a while.

I've seen 5Z4EE reply to a few folks calling CQ on PSK. He seems to just find some average signal among the fray that he's never worked and responds to make their day. And then he's gone.

That's exactly how I worked Kenya as well. I was just making some "Qs" and hanging out. All of the sudden, here he is calling, loud and clear.
It was a pleasant surprise. Although, I have had a few calls from new ones. They want Wyoming so them come find me.
