My Condolences. I found this online.

Harold "Hal" Carleton Steves, 87, was born September 28, 1924 in Columbia City, Oregon, and died June 1, 2012 in Roseburg, Oregon.

Harold served as radarman 2nd class on the command ship USS Mt.McKinley. He received 4 stars for Pacific duty and one star for the liberation of the Philippines.

He married Voyla Marie Hansen, daughter of Julius and Iva Agnes Hansen, on December 30, 1950.

Harold's hobbies included amateur radio. As KL7HJD, he served as a disaster-relief volunteer for Alaska and helped those living in the bush with crucial communications.

Two daughters were born to Harold and Voyla: Arden Iva of Grants Pass, OR, born April 14, 1958 and married to John Buckley Sleadd; and Julia Ann of Roseburg, born May 14, 1960 and married to John Richard Raynor.

Harold and Voyla lived in Anchorage, Alaska during two periods from 1951-56 and from 1971-1991. They lived in Seattle in the interim, and retired to Roseburg, OR in 1991.

Mr. Steves is survived by his wife; his daughters and sons-in-law; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Graveside services are tentatively set for June 16th at Roseburg Veterans' Cemetery.
