Default how long til replacement paper license arrives

I'm looking to test for General on July 5 but my hard copy of my ticket has vanished. I got online this week and put in a request with FCC.gov for a replacement. Anyone know the turnaround time for them these days?

You should get it before then. The FCC usually takes care of these requests within 5-6 days at the latest.
Relax and wait for, it will be there.

You will probably get it before July 5. You can print a reference copy of your license from the ULS, that might be acceptable to the VE team, you can check with them. If they have internet connections at the test, they can also verify your license through the ULS, although they are not required to do so.

Most VE teams are pretty accommodating, but some can be strict. Your best bet may be to call someone on the team who will be administering the test, and see what their policy is. Worst case is you are issued a CSCE to show that you have passed the test, but your upgrade may not be processed until the VEC gets your documentation.

Cool. Thanks. Don’t know what happened to my original. My cats probably decided to eat it. I have my first ticket which is long expired. I'll keep an eye on the mailbox for my replacement.
The reason I'm waiting for the hard copy is because I spoke to the head VE and was told to have the hard copy.

Take your expired ticket and the printout from the FCC ULS. That should be enough documentation, even if the paper copy has not arrived. 95% chance your paper copy will have arrived by then, you might even have it by the end of the week.

The very worse thing that can happen is you would need to take the technician test again, which shouldn't be a problem, pass it then take the general. That might confuse the folks at the FCC alittle but they will finally sort it out and upgrade you to general. While you're there take the extra exam, it won't cost you any more then the time it take to complete it.
    Good luck on your test.

No, he wouldn't have to take the tech test. He can easily show that he is licensed through the internet ULS. That may not be available to the VE team, however. Worst case is he gets a CSCE for the general test, which will grant him a general license as soon as he provides any additional needed info, probably just a copy of the ULS info, if he doesn't have a paper license.

The paper license isn't actually authority to operate. See http://www.ae7q.net/Generate.php

    excerpt:
An amateur's legal operating authority in the USA comes from the data in the FCC's ULS database (see FCC rules, US Title 47 CFR §97.5(a) & US Title 47 CFR §97.7(a)), and not from the paper license that the FCC prints and mails, which is just a legal notification of that data (although the paper license may be required by foreign governments if you travel outside the USA). In fact, the FCC provides a web page for printing a "reference" copy of any FCC license:
    • Go to the .
    • Search for a callsign.
    • Select the callsign to display the license data page.
    • Click on "Reference Copy".
That Web page can generate a better looking copy than the one you get from printing the FCC one.

I find it interesting how the ULS only shows my license since my last renewal in 2005. I have been licensed since 1995. I figured it would show "Licensed since 1995, Renewed 2005..." and so on.

Done. Except for the REFERENCE COPY title printed diagonally across the printo out it looks great. I made two copies, on to keep and one to give to the VE.
Thanks for the tip. I appreciate all of the advice given to my question.
Now I need to get back to studying for the General so all of this won't be in vain.
