Field day questions - two operators, which call sign?
Hello! My brother and I are planning on doing field day together this year. We are both licensed. We will be operating with temporary antennas from a (non-licensed) friend's acreage. We will have one or two radios setup, not sure yet. Hopefully I will have an HF and antenna and a 6M antenna, so I might get two radios going. With only one 25 amp power supply, we will probably not be TXing at the same time though.
I think we should be class B? 1B or 2B? What if we have two radios but can only TX on one of them at a time (due to antenna interference between the two or power supply issues).
What call sign should we use? I'd like to use mine and I'm sure he would like to use his own too.
Thanks.

If two HF transmitters are used for the event you would be a 2B station. You can only use one call sign if you plan on submitting your logs.
The VHF station wont count for the number of transmitters but the points do count. Have fun!

Field Day Rules would lead me to believe you are going to be 1B since you have ONE transmitter in use at a time.

You can use his, if he won't decide to use yours.
Alternatively, you could ask a trustee of a club that does not have a Field Day operation to use their club callsign. I would think they would ask you to join their club though.
Hope that helps.

I'm not positive on this but if you can only have 1 transmitter at a time then you should be 1B, I would email the ARRL for the correct answer.
As to which callsign to use I would suggest the operator with the highest class license. If you are both the same class then it doesn't make a difference.

I don't think we will submit our logs. So we could each say we are 1B, each using our own call sign?
I didn't know the VHF station didn't count. So we will definitely be 1B then, the only thing left to figure out is if we use our own calls or share one.

The VHF station does count, same as any other transmitter, when you operate 1B or 2B. If you operate a VHF station the same time as an HF station, you would be 2B. If you are not operating HF when you operate the VHF, then you are a 1B, since you only have one station transmitting at a time.
If you each operate independently, then each of you would be a 1B, since you could only have one station on at a time.

Any transmissions above 30Mhz are considered a "free" station. You can read the rules at www.arrl.org. 73!

No, not so. The free VHF station only applies to class A stations. The OP is talking about setting up a class B station. His operation does not qualify as a class A setup, per the rules.

Hello to all. I got a question. I'll work from my car in Field Day but not from California. My class suppose to be 1C, is it correct?
Thanks.

Yes. 1C and the state or section. If you are in AZ, your exchange would be "K6VHF, 1C, Arizona."
