That's a very general question I know, and am sure will open a floodgate of different opinions.
Ideally I'd have 15 or so mics and slowly work my way through them I guess?
And, I appreciate that our voices are all totally different.
Whilst I'm here over in the states, and have the opportunity to buy a quality microphone, something that will hold its' value, something that sounds natural.
I currently use an Icom 7800, a W2IHY 8 band EQ and the EQ Plus just to 'tweak' the audio that I get from an old Goldline Pro (no longer sold) which is a flat response dynamic.
I'm not overly keen personally on the Heil sound, and yes they have a definitive sound to my young ears that distinguishes them from others.
I have the cheap, electret Icom hand mic, and the highs that I get from that are fantastic, better than a dynamic mic for my voice.
It lacks bottom end though. The highs, certainly 'excite' the Tx more and of course offer greater inteligability over DX range, but I would like a mic that I can mount properly in a boom.
So, where do I start, there are so many manufacturers, but I think electret will be the way for me?
Now, I'm not looking for that flat, pseudo HI-Fi audio (I have an 850 +DSP100 for that) that one hears so often on the air these days...just a good quality mid range mic. A pal has just bought an RE27 and says that is the bees, knees.
Any suggestions?
