Error installing USB drivers for Icom IC-9100
When I attempt to install either the drivers located on the CD from Icom or the ones I downloaded directly from Icom, once installed when I power on the radio I get an "Unknown Device" error. I have tried installing/uninstalling the drivers numerous times and nothing seems to work. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you contacted ICOM and see if they have a solution?
I would try that as a first step.
If you are trying to install the drivers with the rig connected to the USB port, then make sure the rig is not connected to the USB port.
Other than contacting ICOM that's all I can come up with. Maybe someone else will have more to add.
Good luck

figured out the issue. Apparently ICOM uses a proprietary USB cable. I was using a standard A/B one I already had laying around.

That's interesting.
I recently bought the Icom 7600 and had no problems loading up the drivers and running the rig with a standard Belkin Cable.
Do you know what Icom does differently with their proprietary USB cable?

Yea, this was a really bizarre issue. My rig is about 10 ft away from my computer/ I had 2 brand new 15' A/B usb cables along with 2 new 6ft with 6ft extenders. After installing the drivers, I connected the USB cable and turned the radio. I immediately got an error with "Failed to detect USB device". I spent the next hour swapping cables, even went as far as moving the radio right next to the computer and used the 6ft to see if it was an issue with the distance. None of the combinations worked. i then took the cable Icom provided and followed the same process and it worked first time. I hen tried the Icom cable with one of the extenders and it failed again.
My final solution was to use one of my 4 port powered USB hubs located right next to he radio with the Icom USB cable plugged into the hub and the hub going back to my computer through the hub's USB into a 6ft extender.
I have not taken the time to do a pin out with my DMM, but for some reason the would only work if their cable was used directly into a hub by the rig. Really strange.

I am not sure it is related to using a proprietary icom usb cable. I had a similar problem. Upon re-reading the instructions I did notice that ICOM said using a long USB cable may create a problem. So I switched to a short (3ft i think) usb cable (non-icom) and it worked first time around.
