Default Icom SM-50 desk mike echo

I have just bought an Icom SM-50 desk mike for my Icom 7600.
Every contact reports that I have an echo.
I have adjusted the gain on the radio and mike as well the "set mode menu" level adjustments.

    Thanks, NT Jack.

If the echo disappears when you use another microphone then you need to find out what you're doing differently between the two microphones. How far away from the mic and so on.
Are other background noises being picked up by the SM-50?
If you cannot find any difference between the manner in which you use the SM-50 and the other microphone then try the SM-50 on another rig if you can. If the problem shows up on the other rig as well, then you have something going on with the microphone and it needs repair or replacement.
I'm wondering if the mic ever worked properly?
    Did it just suddenly happen?
Let us know about the tests and how they worked out.
    Have a good one Jack.

Did you buy the Icom mic used?

What does this "echo" sound like?

Check under the bottom of the mic (remove cover) to see if someone hasn't added an echo circuit...

Echo circuits are not only popular with CBers around the world, but some Amateurs of certain countries seem to like using them also.

    Thank you Gary and Clark.
After a few tests I found that this mike is very sensitive.
It picks up the echo from my room.
I have four brick walls, tiled floor and a high ceiling.
    The room is very big.
Now that I have found the problem, I have just purchased "W2IHY 8 band EQ and EQ Plus".
    I"ll see how that goes.
    Once again thank you,
    73 ,
    NT Jack.
