Default The British are not flag wavers, but get a load of this !

As many of you may be aware we don't "do flag waving" in Britain, that is until now, and everybody has gone flag crazy ! The festivities have begun and as usual the sun has vanished. There is going to be great merriment, singing, dancing and carousing wearing plastic macs and hats with the kids wearing union jack wellies because it will probably rain.

So just to get you into the spirit here are some photo's. One thing you may notice is not only do we laugh and take the mickey out of the French and Germans, in fact any foreigners, we also do it on our royal family. We are an incorrigable, irreverant lot, a right pain in the ass, but we know our cousins in the US of A love every one of us !

Special good wishes to our kith and kin in Canada, Australia and New Zealand in this Jubilee season to commemorate 60 years as Queen Elizabeth II

No , we don't do it very often(flagwaving etc), but when we do, we do it well.....We also do the pomp and circumstance thing to perfection - just watch the Processions on Sunday ( on the river- Thames pageant) and Tuesday (traditional with troops , cavalry, coaches etc).

I have a large Union flag on the front of the house - even the wind is irreverent, it tied the flag up in knots!

No, you Brits are not generally perceived by outsiders as flag wavers... but as long as you are doing it, we expect dignity!

    God save the Queen!

PS... What's that blue "Police Call Box" at the end of the row in photo #9? Oh, it's gone now, never mind!

...and NO, it's not a vanity call, it just happened!

Nah, Mel, surely you got that wrong - isn't it good old straight bats? Then Pimm's in the pavilion?

So are they REALLY going to change Big Ben's name?

"America's quiet warriors are the legion of ham radio operators, 700,000 of them, who are always at ready for backup duty in emergencies – amateur, unpaid, uncelebrated, civilian radio operators, during and after floods and fires and tornadoes. After the 9/11 attacks, hams were indispensable in reuniting friends and families. Most recently it was they who expedited the search for debris after the Columbia Explosion , and right now, at this moment, they are involved in homeland security to a greater degree than you would want me to make public."

No, Big Ben is actually the name of the bell that strikes the hour. I believe they are changing the name of the tower but not the bell.

"The British are not flag wavers,"

You are talking about the same British ?

The ones that live in the British Isles?

The ones that wait around for hours to see "The Changing Of The Guard"?
